Vanguard Piping Systems (Canada) Inc. (Vanguard Canada) announced that its parent company has acquired Viega´s remaining interest in the company.
Vanguard Canada is now a wholly owned Canadian corporation manufacturing PEX and HDPE piping products in its facility in Burnaby, British Columbia. The company will continue to sell its products in Canada and now has the opportunity to expand its geographical reach worldwide including the United States.

Within its overall strategic shift away from the production and sale of commodity products, REHAU announced that it will exit municipal PVC pipe manufacturing and supply in Canada, as well as its business as a PEX plumbing systems supplier in the U.S. and Canada.
Production of municipal PVC pipe will end as of October 31, 2008, with sales continuing through March 31, 2009. The company will also support PEX plumbing systems orders through March 31, 2009, and will provide full-scale customer assistance to ensure a smooth transition into alternative plumbing systems product lines thereafter.

Rifeng announces price reductions for its Pipes, Brass Fittings and Valves. Although the company faces RMB appreciation, raw materials and labor cost increasing, this year, Rifeng still has excellent performances on customer satisfaction and market expansion amazingly, up till now Rifeng sales up more than 40% over the same period of last year.. GF Piping Systems will invest a total of CHF 21 million in its Schaffhausen location in order to expand distribution and production. About CHF 14 million of this amount will be invested in expanding the current distribution centre and improving its efficiency, while CHF 7 million will be set aside to increase manufacturing capacity of plastic products in the Schaffhausen plant. The investments will be made to satisfy the surge in demand, to eliminate delivery bottlenecks and to substantially improve operating processes.

A group of major European equipment technology developers and material producers, together with Borealis, a leading provider of innovative value-creating plastics solutions, have joined forces to design a single-stage production process for high-performance peroxide-crosslinked polyethylene (PE-Xa) pipes.
The cooperative project involves Finland-based Crosslink Finland Oy, which produces infrared crosslinking units; Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik in Germany, which has developed some of the best twin-screw extruders available for this technology; German company, iNOEX, which supplies innovative dynamic mixing, dosing and control units; Borealis, which has developed two new grades in its BorPEXTM range of crosslinkable high molecular weight, high density polyethylenes especially designed to suit this production process; as well as AkzoNobel, who delivers the suitable type of peroxide and Ciba who provides the additives.

On August 29, 2008, Daikin Europe N.V., a 100% subsidiary of Daikin Industries Ltd. headquartered in Osaka, Japan, announced an agreement with the principal shareholders to acquire 100% of Rotex Group Companies with headquarters in Güglingen, Germany. Rotex is engaged in the production and distribution of heating products and complete heating systems. This acquisition -subject to the approval of the antitrust clearance authorities in Germany - strengthens Daikin’s offerings and market presence in its heating segment.
