Reducing energy consumption and eliminating wastage are among the main goals of the European Union (EU). EU support for improving energy efficiency will prove decisive for competitiveness, security of supply and for meeting the commitments on climate change made under the Kyoto protocol. There is significant potential for reducing consumption. With 40% of our energy consumed in buildings, the EU has introduced legislation to ensure that they consume less energy.

By the time BAU opens its doors in January 2011 the European building industry should have largely overcome the consequences of the global economic crisis and a more stable situation should be emerging. However, growth rates such as were seen before the recession are not expected to return before 2012. This forecast comes in the latest report by Euroconstruct, a group of research institutions and consultancies from 15 Western European countries and four in Central Europe.
In 2009, the global economic crisis continued to impact on the building industry. Building activity had already declined in 2008, following the collapse of residential construction. In their report, the experts from Euroconstruct describe 2009 as the “worst year in over a decade”. A dramatic downturn in demand in building construction, in particular in the residential segment, led to an overall decline in European building volumes of 8.4 percent, to around 1.4 billion euros. For comparison: GDP for all Euroconstruct countries fell by ‘only’ an average of 4 percent.

Aquatherm is a world-wide active producer of plastic pipe systems for the potable water and heating sector. aquatherm was founded in 1973 as company for development, production and installation of warm water floor heatings. Then, aquatherm was one of the first three suppliers of floor heatings on the European market.
In 1980 aquatherm developed the fusiotherm®-plastic pipe system of polypropylene (PP-R) for potable water and heating installations. Trade innovations were the basis for a constant growth. Today, aquatherm has subsidiaries in Radeberg/Dresden and Carrara/Italy and more than 74 marketing partners all over the world.

Plastic pipe systems are mainly used as pressure pipes for water and gas distribution inside buildings and in underground construction but also increasingly for the transport of chemicals, food and compressed air in industrial applications. Examples for non-pressure pipe applications are sewage pipes and downspouts.
Over the course of the past 30 years, plastic pipes have proven their value in many applications and have replaced pipe made of conventional materials, for example concrete, steel and also copper, around the world. The KWD PP-R Market-Report focuses on plastic pressure pipes for indoor hot and cold water transport only, thus on plastic pipes for hot water systems in residential and non-residential buildings.
PP-R was one of the first plastic materials to replace metal for indoor pipe applications. Developed by Chemische Werke Hüls, now Sabic, PP-R at that time became increasingly popular in Western Europe, particularly in Germany, Austria, Spain and Italy. For example, PP-R was the most widely used plastic pipe material in Italy at the peak of its success.
- The total amount of PP-R used will most likely remain the same but decline in European countries.
- Detailled information on PP-R quantity estimates by countries can be found in our PP-R Market Report.

This is the statement with which BEULCO is presenting a plug-in connector, the next generation of connecting technique for PE pipes. The technology of plugging-in offers real advantages in processing for the user. For the conventional ways of connecting like welding, bonding, clamping or pressing the cost price of the components is nearly on the same level for all suppliers. A higher value-added is only to be achieved by more efficiency in installations.
Time is precious – more than ever
That is the reason why BEULCO has turned the attention on the simple handling to reduce assembly time when developing new products. Labour-intensive working steps like preparations of pipe surfaces as well as long cooling-times and the purchase of expensive equipment for welding and pressing will no longer be a problem for users. The demand for pipe connections that are simple and permanently dense has been convincingly fulfilled by the new BEULconnect. Only few hand grips are necessary to connect the pipes. Mistakes in mounting can nearly be excluded.
